who is BLACKMOON ?
I am a self-taught multidisciplinary artist with a deep-rooted passion for the artistry behind garment making and innovative, practical design. From a young age, I took it upon myself to acquire knowledge, expertise, and techniques through extensive research in books, manuals, workshops, YouTube videos,… and by closely observing the work of those I admire. This journey ultimately laid the foundation for my conceptual design atelier, BLACKMOON:ATELIER11, which came to fruition in 2022, though the idea had been germinating for three years prior
The establishment of my atelier has afforded me the opportunity to connect with a multitude of talented young artists from my city and beyond, who continually inspire me to push boundaries, think critically, and innovate in my creativity and designs.
My artistic inspirations are drawn from a diverse array of sources, including punk culture in a afrodescent meaning, architecture, cinema, people and the deconstructionism movement. At Atelier11, the motto is « deconstructed construction » celebrating the intricate chaos that exists within a meticulously structured design. However, it is the world around me that profoundly influences and shapes my creations. I acknowledges the burning issues plaguing our environments and recognize the fashion industry’s significant role in these catastrophes. Consequently, at Atelier 11, I have made a deliberate choice to work at a deliberate pace, much like a wave in the vast ocean, steadily progressing until it reaches the shore. I believe in taking time and creating a select number of pieces that are not only products but also works of art.
As a perpetual learner, I choose to embrace the future with unwavering enthusiasm. We, at Atelier11 aspire to create a larger tapestry that embodies our vision, eagerly anticipating the endless possibilities that lie ahead us.
